The office of the Controller of Examinations is one of the prime offices of the SEU. This office is fully computerized and is working on networking facilities. The activities of the Office are as follows:

The Examinations office is working with network based “SEU Software” and the guardians of students are getting Semester results of their wards by post, excepting the defaulting students. Now a student and any one can find and download the necessary application Forms, the rules & regulation, results and notifications of the examination related affairs through the website. From now onwards students and the guardians of the students can get current semester results through SMS. “Procedure for Visualization of exam result through Mobile Telephone”

All concerned are hereby informed that in accordance with the approval of the Competent Authority the existing rates for issuing Academic Transcript, Provisional Certificate, Original Certificate and for Certificate correction are hereby revised in the following manner as shown against each:-

Rules to deal with Examination Offences and Disciplinary Action

[Approved by the Management Board (30.11.2005) on the recommendation of the Academic Council (25.07.2005)]

 

1. The following shall be considered as Offences during the Examination:

(i) Communication with one another.

(ii) Smoking inside the Examination Hall.

(iii) Having no Invigilator’s Signature on the script.

(iv) Possessing of incriminating documents.

(v) Copying from incriminating documents or from another’s script.

(vi) Using abusive language or holding out threats to the invigilators or any other person in the Examination Hall.

(vii) Creating obstructions or disturbances inside the Examination Hall.

(viii) Assaulting or attempting to assault the Chief Supervisor, Officer-in-Charge or the Invigilator or any one else in the Examination Hall.

(ix). Smuggling of script into and out of the Examination Hall.

(x). Writing of answer-script in an unauthorized place.

(xi) Replacing the cover or any page of the answer-script.

(xii). Impersonating at the Examination.

(xiii) Taking false plea/advantage of false plea of illness/pregnancy.

(xiv) Substitution of or addition to answer-script without lawful authority.

(xv) Assisting/abetting in the commission of the above offences.

(xvi) Such other acts on the part of an examinee as in the opinion of the Chief Supervisor/Officer-in Charge may constitute an offence.

2. Disciplinary action in the form of cancellation of the examination and debarring from appearing at the subsequent Examination(s) shall be taken by the Vice-Chancellor on the recommendation of the Discipline Committee against the examinees who commit an Examination offence as defined above. The action(s) taken by the Vice-Chancellor shall be reported to the Management Board for approval.

3. In making the recommendation on the report of the Invigilator or Enquiry Report the Discipline Committee shall follow the under mentioned guidelines:

(i) Examinees who are detected in the act of communication with one another inside the Examination Hall shall be liable to cancellation of the remaining period of the Examination.

(ii) Examinees who are found smoking inside the Examination Hall shall be fined according to the gravity of the offence.

(iii) Absence of Invigilator’s signature will make the Examination liable to cancellation after proper examination.

(iv) Examinees who are found with incriminating documents in their possession shall be debarred from appearing at one more Examination in addition to the cancellation of the Examination concerned.

(v) Examinees who are detected in copying from incriminating documents or from another script or found creating obstruction or disturbances inside the Examination Hall shall be debarred from appearing at two more Examinations in addition to the cancellation of the Examination concerned.

(vi) Examinees who use abusive language or hold out threats to the Chief Supervisor/Officer-in-Charge/Invigilator or any other person in the precincts of the Examination Hall, smuggle answer-script into and out of the Examination Hall, or replace the cover or any page of answer-script, substitute one answer script or part thereof for another, or add to an answer-script any extra page with answer not written by him/her in the Examination Hall during Examination period, shall be debarred from appearing at three more Examinations in addition to the cancellation of the Examination concerned.

(vii) Examinees who are found to have written answer-scripts in unauthorized places or impersonated at the Examination or taken false pleas/advantage of false pleas of illness/pregnancy, shall be debarred from appearing at four more Examinations in addition to the cancellation of the Examination concerned.

(viii) Examinees who assault the Chief Supervisor/Officer-in-Charge/Invigilator or commit such other serious offence would be liable to maximum punishment upto the debarment from all subsequent Examinations of the University in addition to the cancellation of the Examination concerned.

(ix) Abetment of the above offences shall be equally punishable.

4.. Examinees committing any of the Examination offences mentioned above except sub-clause (i) , (ii) and (iii) of Section-A shall not be allowed to continue with the Examination in that paper, such scripts shall not be sent for evaluation but will be sent separately. Permission to appear at the Examination in subsequent papers will be at the discretion of the Chief Supervisor or Officer-in-Charge as the case may be.

5. The Invigilator shall submit to the Chief Supervisor/Officer-in-Charge of the Examination Centre separate report for each case stating clearly the nature and circumstances of the offence with all connected documents in support of the case, underlining the copied portions in the script as well as in the incriminating documents in the case of actual copying.

6. The Chief Supervisor or the Officer-in-Charge shall forward to the Controller of Examinations the report of the Supervisor/Invigilator/Officer/person connected with the Examination and the relevant documents with his own opinion along with the script concerned.

7. Any other case not covered by the above rules shall be dealt with by the Discipline Committee as it deems fit.

Rules for Course Registration & Code of Conduct of Examination

1.         Course Registration (Semester-wise):

            (a)        The Students of all the programs of the University are required to complete their course registration, on payment of requisite fees, within 7 days (without late fees) and further 07 days (with late fees) from the date of commencement of the classes of a semester.

                        The defaulters will not be allowed to attend any classes or to appear at any examination of the semester.

            (b)        A candidate must sign on the following declaration in the Registration Form:
                        “If I adopt any unfair means in the examination or if I commit anything which is detrimental to the academic environment of the University or the interest of the University I shall be liable for disciplinary action.”

2.         Re-Sit/Make-up Examination:

            From Spring Semester 2007 onwards there shall be no re-sit/make-up examination. If a student fails to appear at the semester final examination for various reasons, he/she may appear at the same examination in the subsequent semester with the regular students on payment of requisite fees with prior permission of the Dean concerned. His/her results will be finalized with previous marks taken together, failing which his/her results will be declared fail.

3.         (i)        Re-take Examination:

                        A student after completion of a course, appearing at the examination but securing “F” grade must re-take the course on payment of requisite fees. If any one fails to clear up the course within two chances he/she will have to take the course afresh on payment of usual fees.

 

            (ii)        Improvement Examination:

                        A student appeared and passed but secured below “B+” grade may improve the results. He/She may take the course(s) for improvement on payment of requisite fees with prior permission of the Dean concerned. No one will be allowed to avail the same more than once.

            For Re-take or Improvement, students will have to complete course registration on payment of requisite fees within the scheduled upcoming registration date. He/She will have to attend classes, appear at the class test, Mid-Term & Final examination afresh.

4.         Conduct of Examination:

            (a)       Arrangements for holding the examination shall be made by the Department concerned.

            (b)       The examinations in the different programs will be held on such dates as may be notified by the Chairperson of the relevant Examination Committee. (Such notice shall be countersigned by the Dean of the School concerned):

                        Provided that dates of examinations shall be notified at least (two weeks) prior to the commencement of the examinations and dates of postponement of examinations shall be notified not less than one week before the commencement of each examination:

                        Provided further that dates of examinations once announced shall not be changed. However, for reasons of strikes or such other valid reasons, the Examination Committee, may change the date/dates of examination(s) of a course/courses and the action together with explanation shall be reported to the Academic Council.

            (c)       Examination Committee:

                        (i)         There shall be an Examination Committee consisting of 3 members for each program (2 members of the concerned program/department and one member from other program/department) to be appointed by the Vice-Chancellor on the recommendation of the respective Dean. One member of the program/department will act as Chairperson of the Examination Committee.

                        (ii)        The Examination Committee shall discharge the following functions:
                                    a)         To moderate the question paper.
                                    b)         To issue instructions concerning the standard in setting question paper and evaluating scripts.
                                    c)         To conduct the viva-voce examination, if any.
                                    d)         To prepare/tabulate the results of the examination.

            (d)       Submission of results:

                        After the examination, the course teacher should also submit the grades with evaluated answer scripts to the examination office within 3-4 days so as to enable the office to publish results within 7 days from the date of completion of the semester final examination.

            (e)       Change/modification of results:

                        There shall be no alteration of marks submitted by individual examiners except:

                        (i)         Where there is an arithmetical error in adding the marks, the tabulators shall bring it to the notice of the Chairperson of the Examination Committee and correction in these cases shall be made by the Chairperson with approval of the Dean concerned.

                        (ii)        Where answers have been left unmarked, the Chairperson of the Examination Committee shall make arrangement for evaluation of the unmarked answers and make the necessary corrections in the total marks with the approval of the Dean concerned.

            (f)        Incomplete results:

                        The course teachers must state in the remark column of the grade sheet the reason for the incomplete results and must finalize the results, through the Dean concerned, within 7 days from the date of publication of results. If no report is received by the Controller of Examinations within 7 days from the date of publication of results, the incomplete results will be graded as follows:

                        (i)         Incomplete for Mid-term marks or Class work, the results will be graded on the basis of the final with the remaining marks.

                        (ii)        Incomplete for final marks the results will be graded as “F” (failed) whatever marks the student obtained in the other examinations of the semester.

In future, no result will be revised after 7 (seven) days from the date of publication of results. All faculty members may kindly be advised to follow the procedure, in order to avoid complication.

NOTICE

Attention of all students and faculties of the University is hereby drawn to remind them about the rules regarding re-examination, change of marks, re-scrutiny of results and finalizing incomplete results noted below:

1. Re-examinations of scripts & change of marks
There is no provision for re-examinations of answer scripts or alteration of marks submitted  by the examiner except-
(i) where there is an arithmetical error in adding the marks, the tabulators shall bring it to the notice of the Chairperson of the Examination committee and correction in these cases shall be made by the Chairperson with the approval of the Dean concerned.
(ii) where answer (s) has/have been left unmarked the Chairperson of the Examination committee shall make necessary correction in the total marks with the approval of the Dean concerned.

2. Re-scrutiny of results:
A student may apply for re-scrutiny his/her answer script of Semester Final examination on payment of a fee of TK. 100/ (one hundred) per course within 30 days from the date of publication of results of the course through the Coordinator / Chairman concerned.

3. Grading incomplete results.
(i) Incomplete for Mid-term marks or Class work or other wise, the results will be graded on the basis of the final marks with the remaining marks.
(ii) Incomplete for final marks the results will be graded as “F” (failed) whatever marks the student obtained in the other examinations of the semester.
The course teacher may finalize the incomplete results through the dean concerned within 7 says from the date of publication of results and there after no revision will be made.
